RADIOACTIVE waste accidentally dumped into the North Sea by Torness Power Station did not endanger the public. The troubled power giant was fined £150,000 after it admitted releasing 60 cubic metres of contaminated water into the sea at Dunbar in October 2001.

AT a meeting of the Berwickshire Education Committee it was decided to recommend the closure of the single teacher schools at Mellerstain and Ladykirk.
DUNS Rugby Football Club, formed three years ago, have a new pitch but so far weather conditions have been so bad that they have not been able to play a home fixture on it.
THE hill roads in Berwickshire were once again blocked with snow.

OPERATIONS which have been in progress for some months have now reached completion in connection with the extensive addition to the St Abbs lifeboat slipway, and on which has been put a powerful winch, for the more expeditious hauling up and lowering of the lifeboat in the harbour.
