Jihn Gallagher, hedgerow competition

This week’s photograph comes from October 1990. John Gallagher saw his labours come to fruition when the hedge he had cut for 14 years won the Scottish Gourmet Hedgerow Competition. Owned by Miss Elizabeth Bayne-Jardine of Humbie, the hedge was made up of a variety of different bushes.

John worked for R L Smith and Co. of Norham, and he used to trim the hedge once a year, a process that used to take him 50 hours at a time.
