BUDDING Paul Hollywoods from Tweedmouth Middle School got hands-on experience of muffin making when they visited The Hirsel farm at Coldstream recently.

The children took a break from the classroom to learn about food and farming as part of The Co-operative’s ‘From Farm to Fork’ project, which also celebrated its fifth anniversary since it started at the farm.

During the visit to the Hirsel Estate the youngsters learnt about crops grown by Co-operative Farms, and how to make healthy banana and oat muffins.

Sally Fleming, Co-operative Farms’ project leader at the farm, said: “It was very fitting that one of the first ever schools to visit the Hirsel Coldstream, and who have been back regularly ever since, have helped us celebrate the fifth anniversary of ‘From Farm to Fork’ launching on the estate.

“It was a fantastic day out for the children, who learnt the benefits of healthy eating, as well as understanding the importance that wildlife plays in farming and putting food on our plate.”
