Duns lights up, pipes up for Christmas
Duns Pipe Band at the Duns Christmas lights switch on 2012.
DUNS residents of all ages packed into the Market Square at the weekend to celebrate the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights.
The town’s glistening display of lights were switched on by Wynsome Mayde, Abigail Sullivan on Sunday, December 2.
Abigail made her entrance in style, arriving as Santa’s special guest, on his sleigh.
Duns Pipe Band played in front of a giant Christmas cracker and the mulled wine flowed among the gathered crowds.
Another musical accompaniment was provided with the annual Macmillan Cancer Research Christmas Concert, which was held in Duns Parish Church. Among the performers were the Berwickshire High School brass and jazz bands, a chamber choir, Duns Guides, the Duns Primary School choir and even a ukelele orchestra.

The celebration was all the more appreciated as at one point the lights may not have been allowed up.
With the community council currently in abeyance, the Rotary Club stepped in to cover the cost of the lights’ insurance this year.
