Dunbar Castle echoed to the sounds of soldiers once again in 1990 when one of the most famous episodes in Scottish history was reenacted. The Battle of Dunbar, which took place in 1650, was by all accounts a bloody affair with 3,000 Royalists reportedly killed by Oliver Cromwell’s Roundhead army.

The reenactment, however, provided a colourful historical pageant, presented under the auspices of the renowned Sealed Knot Society,as part of the Dunbar Initiative, a local scheme aimed at boosting tourism. Pictured above are the warring Bob Leedham and Steve Langan.
