Allanton Inn praised for “hearty food” and “eye for detail”

IT’s a list that many in the hospitality trade strive to make and now the owners of the Allanton Inn are celebrating after the business was named among the new entries for the Good Food Guide 2013.

Since taking over at the Inn a few years ago William and Katrina Reynolds have certainly made their mark, generating brisk trade and some fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor.

And the inclusion in the Good Food Guide is an impressive addition to their list of achievements which includes the ‘Best Dinner in the Borders’ accolade they were awarded last year.

Both William and Katrina, who arrived in Allanton with their children after running a pub in Edinburgh for 10 years, agree that their success is down to the friendly atmosphere they and their staff create for customers and the second to none local produce they serve up.

“We are in the perfect location to source the fantastic local produce we have available in the Borders,” William commented.

“We use Adam Marshall at Slighouses; Peelham Farm; Fairbairn and Foremans butchers; Gallowgate Farm, Norham and we get our fish from D.R.Collin in Eyemouth.

“There’s also a free range egg farmer two miles from us and we get our honey from Chain Bridge.

“We’ve got everything we need around us to make a perfect menu.”

With their own smoker on premises, the Allanton Inn can delight customers with dishes like smoked salmon and Katrina said steaks were also very popular with customers.

“Steaks are the one thing that constantly remain on the menu,” Katrina said.

“We get a lot of repeat business so it’s important for us to change the menu around.

“Our aim with the Inn was to emulate the places we like eating out at. The experience is just as much about service as it is the food.

“Me and William have been in the food industry all our lives so to get the feedback we’ve been receiving and recognition from the Good Food Guide is fantastic.”
