Sixty years ago, a brand favourite was born in Coldstream. Tom Forsyth, a baker, started selling ‘Just Roll’ pastry from his shop in the Berwickshire town in 1954.

A keen engineer and a Coldstream Town Council bailie, Tom Forsyth had been looking for a way to start a frozen pastry business, and the lifting of post-war restrictions by the Ministry of Food was his chance. John Guthrie, who became the firm’s pastry manager, had seen the potential of the product with the American Navy in World War Two, and said he knew it was a winner within six months.
