A BRAND new swimming pool could be built at Eyemouth as part of the planned shake-up of Berwickshire schools. The idea was put forward when councillors agreed to pursue a bid for Public Private Partnership money to fund the £38 million ‘Building for the Future’ project aimed at providing better school facilities. Eyemouth swimming pool was threatened with closure as part of council cutbacks.

THE residents of Duns may be a little confused over the positioning of the town Christmas tree this year - it is horizontal. Once again the beautiful tree was donated by the Hay family of Duns Castle. However when it came to erecting the tree in the Market Square Tablers faced a major problem. The hole for the tree in the Square’s new garden was not large enough for the tree and it fell down. The District Council have promised to amend the hole.

IN view of the continued losses sustained by the Common Good dances which have been organised recently by Coldstream Town Council, it has been agreed that the dances should be discontinued, and the position reviewed in the coming year. The Finance Committee reported that on the last three dances there had been a loss of £10 18s 9d and they recommended that all band bookings for 1963 be cancelled.

FOULDEN Women’s Guild, which is always to the front in the matter of pleasant surprises, has just issued a most interesting and artistically designed Quotation Calendar for 1913. The very interesting calendar contains some suitable quotations for every day of the year and is unique in containing contributions from His Majesty’s Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
