Horncliffe Bulb Show set to bloom for 55th year

HORNCLIFFE is preparing to celebrate its 55th annual Bulb Show on its traditional date of the second Saturday in February.

The idea of an annual Bulb show was planted in 1958 and since then the show has gone from strength to strength.

The schedule of individual classes currently extends to more than 74 disciplines, ranging from bulbs and flowering plants to baked items, decorated cakes and preserves to crafts.

There is even a children’s section of baking and crafts as well as an adult craft section along with a Club entry section.

The show often attracts over 400 entries and has been well supported by the local community.

Show Secretary Brenda Sadler said: “Show day in February can be a bright and cheerful sight on what might be a dark, dull day. The competition is friendly and everyone endeavours to bring their bulbs into full bloom and at their best for show day, not always an easy task for February.”

The show will be on Saturday, February 9, opening at 3pm.
